Changing colour of dashboard text fields based on value
Posted by: JD1 - 08-06-2017, 06:28 PM - Forum: Node Red - Replies (14)

I have several reported parameters on a node red dashboard. Let's say engine temperature for example.
I am wondering if there is any method for changing the colour of the displayed text (or background colour).
In other words, let's say the reading is 80C .... I would like the text data to be shown in green. When it hits 90C I would like it to change to red and if it is 100C I would ideally like it to be either flashing or show a flashing red background with black text or some such thing. Basically I would like to be able to look at a number of data points and at a glance be able to see which parameters are out of the normal range.

This seems to be a fairly basic requirement and I am wondering if I am missing something .....

Thinking on this a bit more, is it possible to have a button / field / area right after the displayed value that changes colour?  This would also allow a quick glance to see if everything is fine or something needs attention.

help with AIS setup version 0.14.0
Posted by: littlestint - 08-05-2017, 11:25 AM - Forum: General discussion - Replies (2)

Hi there!
I am a new user of open plotter. Could any one give me some tips on how I could make the AIS to work in OpenCPN? As far as I can tell OpenPlotter is receiving the signal from my DVB-T dongle (see image attached). I think I am missing something to connect the signal from OpenPlotter to OpenCPN! The documentation I have (versions 9 and 8) are not compatible with to the windows I see in version 0.14.0. Thanks!!!

  TCP In/Out Connection for Autopilot
Posted by: Zeilzin - 08-04-2017, 04:16 PM - Forum: How do I...? - Replies (2)

Hello All,

I'm exploring OpenPlotter and it's capabilities. It really is impressive what already has been achieved. Unfortunatly I'm running into a problem with my nav-setup onboard.
All NMEA 183 and Seatalk data  is converted and multiplexed by a RM Seatalk Converter and a Miniplex 2USB and its output is fed into an RS422 to TCPIP server. This server is connected to a 3G wifi-router.

Connecting the RPi OpenPlotter to this 422/Enet server [instead of the wifi-router] works fine and all data shows up in OpenCPN. The second step was configuring the OPenCPN output  to the server to control the autopilot. This is not possible at the moment because OpenPlotter does not support in and out simultaneously. In Kplex the option both is however available. After selecting the option 'both' in the TCP section of the Kplex config file via Advanced Configuration no input and output data is available. In Diagnostics  both the in and out window generate a time out error message.

Who can shed some light on this ....

Help! - turned on the pi this afternoon and was prompted to upgrade to alpha 14

Did so, and now the openplotter app ( anchor icon) wont run.

The anchor splash screen appears briefly, then nothing

Reboot says there is another upgrade available 14.1, but how do i run that without openplotter?

  Displays for cockpit
Posted by: mxtommy - 08-01-2017, 10:21 PM - Forum: General discussion - Replies (5)

I'm researching monitors so that I can replace my ancient raymmarine chartplotter with openplotter. Currently the chart plotter is on the rail around the helm, so rather exposed. I've been finding a bunch of monitors that are sunlight readable and have an IP65 rating, though I've been unable to find i IP65 is enough for the cockpit? It's supposed to be safe from strong jets of water. I've seen IP65 mention in marketing material that it's ok for "driving rain". But I don't know how IP65 compares to the commerical chart plotters. Does anyone know?

  Initialization of dashboard chart
Posted by: JD1 - 08-01-2017, 05:37 PM - Forum: Node Red - No Replies

This is a totally inconsequential issue that nevertheless offends my sense of what is just wrong in the world so I am on a mission to find out why things are the way they are ....

I have several charts on my dashboard display. When I deploy any changes in my node red flows, all my charts show a weird but non-random (same reading every time the flow is deployed) instantaneous reading.
As an example, I have one chart that displays water depth. The instrument is currently off and should display a blank or maybe a zero (I have initializations that tell it to go to zero on startup). Well the silly thing shows 6 feet. Just for an instant before returning to zero. The result on the chart is rather dramatic - because the instrument is off, there are no readings for a time period but then it gets a 6 foot reading. The chart connects the zero from let's say 30 minutes ago, goes to 6 feet in a sawtooth ramp and then immediately goes back to zero where it stays.
Battery current goes from zero to around 3 amps before going back down to zero. This is a spike (rather than a sawtooth) because it has a regular flow of readings.
My flows generate the data and send it to the local MQTT server, the charts are then produced from the data of the local MQTT server.

As I said, it doesn't affect anything but looks real sloppy and if there is a way to  prevent it from doing so or a way to zero or blank the charts until the system has initialized, I sure would like to know about it.

Kplex lost contact with signal k
Posted by: Littlechay - 08-01-2017, 03:02 PM - Forum: Bug Reports - Replies (14)

I'm not sure if this is a bug or a feature but I don't think that it's finger trouble.

I noticed that OpenCPN was no longer displaying data from my I2C or 1W sensors. I restarted Signal K, restarted Kplex,. Nothing.

Rebooted, nothing
Shutdown and started, nothing.

I can see the data in signal k, temperature, pressures, roll, pitch, heading etc..
But can't see anything in the diagnostics of the entire in the NMEA 0183 window.

I have a serial GPS and that is being passed by Kplex and is being shown in OCPN.

How do I debug Kplex , or Signalk?

I've run openplotter from command line and there are no errors.

Sorry no internet as such to go hunting online at the moment as I'm on the boat.

OCPN is 4.6.1 and OP is 0.13 i.e. the latest updates as performed via Openplotter's update interface.
