AIS alarm with watchdog: - kinefou - 2019-06-10

Hello,

After reading the excellent article: https://1plus1blog.com/2017/04/19/fabriquer-un-recepteur-ais-avec-antenne-rtl-sdr-et-opencpn/, I realized it and it works perfectly!
For solo sailing, all that is missing is an alarm that would allow me to rest more serenely off!
So I turned to the plugin 'watchdog' which proposes to establish a guard zone around the boat with the plugin 'OCpn draw' and to warn in case of presence of a ship (equipped with a transponder!) in the defined area.
I am under openplotter 1.2, with opencpn 5.0.0, OCpn Draw 1.5 and Watchdog 1.9042.
Despite many tests, the presence of an AIS target does not trigger any watchdog action that does not seem to detect it.
I made a test under windows by connecting Opencpn to the server sinagot.net to recover AIS and there, everything is ok, which seems to eliminate a mistake of manipulation on my part! (the same test under openplotter does not work !!).
Someone would have tried to set an AIS alarm with watchdog and could he help me ??
Cordially.

check this out.
in opencpn under options/ships/AIS targets, you can set ship/cpa/tcpa alarms.

Thank you for your quick reply,

I had considered this possibility, but it offers me only sounds as an alarm, which requires me to have an amplifier connected permanently. The interest of 'watchdog' is to offer a command line that allows me to act on a gpio and trigger a buzzer that consumes nothing at rest if not the relay power that operates!
I also noticed that my problem is also present on linux Mint and that it is thus a bug on the linux version of Opencpn and that it is not specific to OpenPlotter.
So your solution will be my only alternative if I can not find answers to this 'watchdog' problem.
cordially

you could also use node red there's a geofence node included in signalk's embedded N-R, and get the ais data from the signalk stream, then you can make it do whatever you want it to do. flash a light, buzzer, horn, use a relay ect. you have access to the gpio's in node red. another thing i use an arduino mega with firmata connected to usb to get a lot more gpio's and analog within node red + its 5v tolerant.
i am interested in something like that too as i will be single handling mostly. so if you get something worked out please post about it.
