How to connect Motor controller - pcmm - 2019-12-14

I've been reading around the forum and sailoog site and getting the motor controller connected is as clear as mud!  from what I can gather so far I have all the parts I need.  MPU_9250 IMU, raspberry pi,   a motor (Octopus 1212 hydrulic pump actually)  and a motor controller ( I've yet to purchase),  but I'm leaning towards a Cytron 20A brushed motor controller.  But what i don't see is how to connect it to the pi.   the inputs just seem to be PWM, DIR and ground.    what am I missing or is there a link to a good set of instructions for this part of the setup?

you forgot the arduino nano
it goes rpi serial to arduino to motor controller to motor, dont just pick a random motor controller and ask for help with it, read thru the forum and find one thats been tested and working for others.
you will save yourself a lot of troubles.

Thanks.  I tried searching the orum for motor controller information with no luck  in the search results.  Interesting that you need an arduino inbetween. (I haven't seen that in any of the documentation thus far.  Any help with good docs is apreaciated.

Oh and BW  Chrome really hates this site.  everything comes up as "malicious"

I had the same issue and worked on a solution for three and a half weeks, basically rewriting 50% of the motor controller code that communicates with PyPilot. I just kinda sorta finished documenting everything on my hackaday page.

I don't have access to my schematics right now but I will try to upload everything on Thursday evening if I get the chance. I'm flying out over the holidays and would not have access to my PC.
However, my code branch on github should allow you to understand what pins to use to make it work. My version of the motor controller code is optimized for the IBT_2 fully integrated h-bridge which should be sufficiently powerful for most applications and then some.

nice write up, that will help many people.
i have most parts on-hand i will give it a test run.
i agree that the documentation is weak and hard to find.
is that openplotter v1.2 ?

RE: How to connect Motor controller - McNugget - 2019-12-16

Yes, I installed OpenPlotter image 1.0.0 and then upgraded to 1.2.0 shortly after using the built-in upgrade tools.

Here are the schematics. This is for KICAD: https://github.com/McNugget6750/pypilot-motor-electronics

Your pics are awesome!  And I really like the 3d printing you've done.  Super stuff!  Deserves a repost over in
