In V0 & V1 I did everything through the OpenPlotter application and didn't need to know what was happening in the background and whether I was using Kplex or Signal K, etc. It just worked. I know very little about Signal K and Kplex and Serial, etc, and for a user without that knowledge I find V2 much harder to use. I got V0.x working very quickly but have had no success with V2. But I've learnt some things from your reply so thank you for that. Is there some documentation that explains how to setup V2, e.g. explaining the fundamentals of what apps to use to achieve different things? I've read the document you mentioned in your post but that seems to assume the user knows when to use Serial and Signal K and what they are, etc.

What are you actually trying to do? If you have nmea coming in from a serial/usb dongle then just open the serial app, select the device in the list, give it a name and set it nmea0183, then click apply. >
then on the second tab select the same device and click 'add to signalk'
That's it. All the data goes to signalk and the nmea goes striaght through to port 10110 which is already set up up opencpn.
