Problem with usb hub
#1
Hi,
Today I swapped my old, flimsy powered usb hub  for a Delock 62440 3-port usb hub. It also has an ethernet interface on/board.
No the PI doesn't find any of the units connected to the new hub..
I deleted all the old ports and connections from the serial app before I begun.
The Delock Hub is powered but doesn't send 5v back to the PI which is correct.
When the hub is plugged into one of the usb ports on the PI an some devices are connected to the hub nothing at all is shown in the Serial app.
When I run lsusb from terminal I get the following where text in red represents the Delock

pi@openplotter:~ $ lsusb
Bus 001 Device 006: ID 03f0:134a HP, Inc Optical Mouse
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 03f0:0024 HP, Inc KU-0316 Keyboard
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0951:1666 Kingston Technology DataTraveler 100 G3/G4/SE9 G2
Bus 001 Device 053: ID 0b95:1790 ASIX Electronics Corp. AX88179 Gigabit Ethernet
Bus 001 Device 052: ID 2109:2811 VIA Labs, Inc. Hub
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0424:ec00 Standard Microsystems Corp. SMSC9512/9514 Fast Ethernet Adapter
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0424:9514 Standard Microsystems Corp. SMC9514 Hub
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

When I plug a gps and a AIS unit to the hub and run dmesg I get response as below. So for some reason it seems the hub itself is accepted by the PI but not any devices plugged into the hub. Does this mean the hub is incompatible with the PI or is there anything one can do? If so I gladly receive tips about powered usb hubs that work with PI/OpenPlotter
Sorry if being newbieish but my linux knowledge is very shallow...
Cheers,
Par W

I've had a lot of problems with hubs on RPIs. Some work, some don't. Any hubs I've used from Plugable work great. I tried the USB 3.0 hub from Amazon Basics, and it didn't work at all.

You might try looking that hub up on the RPI hardware list and see if it has been tested.

Hi,
Yes the Plugable hubs seems good. A bit hard to get here in Sweden, though. A managed to find a DLink DUB-H4 for direct delivery so I hope that it will work the way I want.
The Delock I tested yesterday is not on the compatability list.
Thanks,
Pär W

The D-Link DUB-H4 is received and tested. Works perfect!
