I got this RS232 to USB adapterr from ebay.
Thanks a lot Didier for the article !
I just want to complete something : you titled your document "Connecting 'legacy' (15y +) NMEA devices to your Rpi"
Actually it's not useful only for old devices. I bought a Nasa clipper wind system on year ago. I was not able to get the NMEA sentences on my OP system with my usb rs 486/422 converter until i sent an e-mail to Nasa support. They told me that the inteface is RS 232. So i tried to connect it following your article instructions. Now it's working like a charm !
I can now get the wind speed and direction.
Next step building a pypilot auto-pilot !
Glad this article could help you !
To update the ebay links, search on ebay : 'DB9 male RS232 to USB'
Where did you got your Nasa clipper wind system ? I am considring replacing my old ST50 wind instrument (wind speed faulty)...
