Hi folks, I just need a little help troubleshooting my AIS in OpenCPN, on Raspberry PI. Latest version OpenCP.
I am able to use the the Radio GQRX feature in SDR Receiver to tune in my local FM radio station, so it seems the stick is working OK.
When I go into OpenCPN, I can't see any targets in my local bay (but I know from an online, web based service that there are).
It is of course possible that I'm just not in range (i'm about 7km inland from the water), and I only have the very small antenna that came with the stick.
SO, a) when I hit "take a look", I see 2 pretty rough bands of reception at the AIS frequencies, but not very neat. How is this SUPPOSED to look?
b) do I need to add in the USB stick as a "Connection" in OpenCPN, or is that part supposed to be automatic? At the moment, I have nothing in connections.
c) at the moment I don't have GPS, as the hardware has not arrived. Is a GPS fix a prerequisite of receiving AIS Targets?
If anyone can give me a few troubleshooting ideas, that would be great!
