Ive been away from OP for a while (Sailing the Atlantic )
I have a working 0.8 system on the boat which I dont want to touch as it works fine but Id like to test 0.9.0 on my bench RPi and see where youve got to with SignalK etc
Problem is Ive forgotten the basics and I cant find the basic installation instructions written up anywhere...
Ive downloaded the NOOBs download onto a SD card but when I boot it all I have is Raspbian - No OpenCPN.
Sorry to be dense but how do I get OP 0.9.0 onto my Pi ?
Thanks

Thanks for ultra quick reply Smile
I did, perhaps I did something wrong, I'll reinstall Noobs (from you) and take it a little more slowly

I did download your NOOBs but then install the wrong NOOBs by mistake
Sorry to waste your time

Will openplotter 0.9 also be released as a normal image  without noobs ?. Feel noobs is more like a Swiss army knife, and bring some extra unwanted complexity when it comes to boot partitions when running the os from a fast usb instead of the standard microsd card.

I can fit opencpn on a 100MB image with tinycore, woudl you consider switching platforms?

Also, does this version .9 support vc4 opengl driver? The graphics with latest raspbian is greatly improved as opengl is finally stable.

The RPI has GPIOpins witch is very useful for connecting a lit of sensors for openplotter witch a normal Linux install on intel x86 compatible hardware does not have so this is an strong option for not. On the other hand, Openplotter might also be very useful on the x86 platform for a lot of stuff so my option is that it absolutely will be welcome and useful in many scenarios.

Hi. I'm new here so be gentle. I've installed the 0.9 Alpha version of OP, unpacked it to a directory, found the root of the file system I needed to copy to a recently formatted SD card, stuck it in the Pi and booted it. Not for the first time though.

This time I checked that the OS directory contained the the OpenPlotter directory.

What I found was that, though I'd written about a gig's worth of the stuff to the SD card, my only option was to install one of the several NOOBS operating systems options none of which were "OpenPlotter". So again, I selected Raspian (certainly didnt want any of the other stuff) and waited and waited whilst it downloaded another gig's worth of stuff, rebooted, and ... all I get is a fresh Raspian install.

Now, I KNOW I downloaded the right image, I KNOW I wrote it to the SD card, I KNOW there is OpenPlotter stuff on the SD card, so why, Oh why, can't I install OpenPlotter?

I've tried this on a RasPi B and a RasPi 2. Might be a problem with the carbon-based life-form pressing the buttons since its getting on a bit -- unless you know different.

Help would be much appreciated.

Peter

Hi Peter,

Format your sdcard into FAT32, copy all of our content from the NOOBS folder to the root of your sdcard and try again.
This is how I have done it and it works every time.
The noobs folder contain all you need, so you dont need to have another operatingsystem on the sdcard from before.

Thanks for the reply. I tried what you suggested on several occasions using two different Pi's and two different SD cards. I'm thinking the downloaded image is broke. Intend to grab the torrent version tomorrow and see what's different.

Thanks again
