Logging
#1
Just started working with v.2, long evening's reading...!

Prior to this I manually added a few lines to the kplex.conf file to log nmea0183 data.
I can't find any easy way to do this now, kplex looks very different and doesn't look fully implemented?
What is best practice for logging with the new version?

Apologies if this has already been covered, been through the forums, can't find it.

I save everything to influxdb database then use chronograf to view. There's a signalk app to pick and choose the data. The sources for influxdb are included in v2 and a quick Google should come up with the easy install process.

Found a working solution using kplex (RPi).
Manual install of kplex from http://www.stripydog.com/kplex/download.html
Set up a unit file for kplex.service under /etc/systemd/system as per https://github.com/stripydog/kplex/blob/...ex.service
Then edited /etc/kplex.conf as per http://www.stripydog.com/kplex/configuration.html
I also added a quick shell script to run on startup (also as a service with a unit file), copy the logfile to a directory name YYYYMMDD with a filename of HHMM
Took a while, it'll be quicker next time!

Influxdb/logging to a file is like reading numbers from a book or going to an imax cinema Smile

You can turn on logging in Signal K server. This will log all your input data, be it in NMEA0183 or N2K or Signal K format, in hourly files and include timestamps with the data rows.
