All,
Thanks for such a great resource!
I assembled a wheel pilot using Sean's kit. I use a small gear motor called a yellow jacket from Servocity. It is spec'd at 1310 oz/ inch which converts to 6.8 lb/ft. It also stalls at 9.2 Amps at 12V.
i use a chain and a sprocket so no slipping. This works great when sailing at any speed or motoring slow. If i go higher rpm motoring the thing loses it's mind and aggressively and seemingly randomly drives the wheel. The boat has some prop wash on the rudder when motoring so I don't know if the motor is being overpowered or if some gain settings might fix this.
Any thoughts or has anyone dealt with this before? I played with the gain settings some but nothing seemed to help the thing was making drastic moves.
Mike
