Or you could fit an RTC. Inexpensive, quite easy to set up and will maintain your system clock irrespective of whether or not the pi is powered up or whether or not it has an internet connection.

That's a good idea.  have you any suggested type?

I've used several types myself but found anything with the DS3231 chipset to be the most reliable and accurate. They tend to be more expensive because of that but to be honest it isn't a huge outlay. I'd say buy from a reputable source as you'll often then get useful information on the device, how to install it, and have fewer concerns over battery safety etc. but frankly the ones I got from eBay for a couple of pounds have been fine. The cheaper ones though do not generally have a replaceable battery which I think is worth paying for.

I've not actually used this particular one but support and quality appear to be good and you can replace the battery (you'll need to buy one at first). Won't break the bank.

Here is one for peanuts purporting to be a DS3231 with a replaceable battery too. If it’s genuine it should install exactly as per the expensive one.
