Open Plotter on Raspberry PI 5
#1
Question
Hi all,
Have just bought a Raspberry pi 5 with the intention of using it as a plotter.
Have got it up and running as PC (using it now) but can't get it to download Open CPN or Flat-pack, (not sure if I need Flat-pack .
I'm not very computer savvy so will need things explained in plane language so hope you will be patient. Rolleyes
Thank you.

Thanks Jason.
It was one of your threads on Apres Sail that got me interested in the Raspberry Pi.
I did find that thread you linked to and down loaded the  Open Plotter 4 Starting file (I had previously down loaded  Open Plotter 3 file) but I don't know how to open the files, can you help?

Thanks again, Dave

Dave,

Thanks for watching my content, hopefully you are a subscriber!!

so I think you are asking what you do next once you have downloaded the OP4 Starting file?

Well, the file is a disk image, so you need to 'burn' it onto an SD card, the easiest way (I find) is to use the Raspberry Pi Imager using the process laid out in the Raspberrry Pi documentation:

https://www.raspberrypi.com/documentatio...arted.html

when you get to the "Choose OS" Stage, scroll to the bottom where it says "Use Custom" and then pick it and navigate to your OP 4 Starting Image.  after that, select your media (your SD card) and then say no to the OS customization.  after that the imager will image the card and then run it.

make sure you have the latest version of imager as the latest lets you select Raspberry Pi 5 as your device, old versions don't

hope this helps!!

Hi Jason,
Afraid I'm not getting very far with this. When I open the Raspberry Pi Imager and select the open plotter down load and double click on it it appears in a dialog box on the imager the other active box says choose storage but when clicked on it just opens a blank box. how do I find the Select Media?

Have ordered the The Official Raspberry Pi Beginners Guide 5th Edition, so I'm hoping that will help, at least with the terminology, and then I can ask sensible questions!
Thanks for you patience, Dave.

You should be doing this on another computer, the SD card you want to burn the image to should be inserted into an SD card reader and connected to the computer.

Before you start the process put the SD card in the reader and connect it to the computer, make sure you can see it, for instance, using windows explorer on a windows machine

Thanks for the quick reply Jason, will have to buy an SD Card  holder, should I use the card that has the Raspberry Pi on it that I'm using to run the Pi 5 or buy another one.
Cheers, Dave.
