tried it with ap disabled different wifi adapter and Ethernet always grayed out. hell i formatted sd card and started over i dont know what else i can do .
googled the prob but most say the driver is missing , but i checked it is in boot folder..

Any luck, Jim? I am facing the same issue when trying to install a second, vanilla Raspbian installation for tinkering.

i ended up using OMXPlayer. vlc didn't work well back then but vlc is now available for rpi. i just use my laptop for media files..
