How do I restore OP from one of the back up files automatically saved.

How did you make the backup? what automatically saved means?
Normally you follow the same but inverse way you made it.

I thought thses backup files were made when updating - I didn't put them there.

I have 3 or 4 (compressed) backup files in my home folder.

ops sorry, I tough you are talking about a complete SD backup.

Right click and "Extract Here". Then rename the folder as "openplotter" and replace it in /home/pi/.config/
Make a backup of the current openplotter folder in case you want to go back.

Thanks for that - never crossed my mind to right click, probably because I'm not using a mouse!!
