Full Version: Read temperature from wind instrument

Hello all!

I have a CV7 ultrasonic windsensor connected through a standard NMEA 0183-USB converter, and the wind direction and speed is coming through nicely.
There is also temperature, in a XDR message, is there anyway I can extract/convert(?) this and be sure it's sent on?

There is something wrong with the XDR sentence generated by your device. According to NMEA specifications, the last field should be an unique ID of your device but you have an empty field:

your wrong sentence: $WIXDR,C,012.0,C,,*51
right sentence: $WIXDR,C,012.0,C,somethinghere,*51

Anyway, to do what you want, go to the file: /home/pi/.config/openplotter/classes/datastream.py and replace the line 345:

Code:
if transducer.id=='I2CT':

by

Code:
if transducer.id=='I2CT' or transducer.id=='':

it can work.
Thanks! :-)
I'll try that!
I also have the CV7 wind sensor. And I can't see the temperature in the NMEA2000 Net.
Nor can I see a sentence in Openplotter for the temperature?

Is there one?

Don't know if this is the right place to ask. I am interested in the CV7SF-USB and would welcome your advise.
@ Alpenskipper & @Arne:
- would you recommend the wireless version for a trailable vessel?
- are you satisfied with the performance of the sensor - how is calibration achieved?
- any comments on supplier support?

Are you aware of any similar (possibly lower-priced) products?

Thanks for advice.

Follow the advice suggested to Arne

Hi!

I dont't know a cheaper device using this technique.
I use the wired version, connected via a so called windyplug to the nmea 2000 network. It is running fine, resolution seems to be better than the traditional winvanes.
Especially in low wind - high waves situations it is performing super.
Calibration was not necessary in my case- you could turn the transducer on the masttop or calibrate it via the serial port.

Support is good, i had several contacts with the supplier in France.

Best Regards

Martin
