Remember as well that when you alter a data connection and press apply the changes don't actually take effect until the signalk server is restarted.

Yes, restarting SK but also refreshing the page, at least in my W7 and Chrome browser

Can't get it to work just refreshing on a windows signalk server, create new data connection & refresh page - shows up on the data connections tab but not in the dash and doesn't accept data, restart signalk and the data connection is in the dashboard and accepting data. I usually restart signalk after changing things just to make sure it's all fresh, though takes a while on a Pi Zero ?
