What do you people use to power another usb hub preferably on the boat battery so that the raspberry doesn’t get all the cables? Please links and some
expriences so I can find a good option.
There are a number of good post on powering the Rasp pi and the various other items that one might put to use for a build like an open plotter. Following this one here
http://forum.openmarine.net/showthread.php?tid=2304 for example I purchased a Mean Well SD 25A-5 That I use to power the Pi itself and a GL-MiFi 4G Smart Router I am sure I can power a couple of other small items that will all be hard wired in the end versus running on the Pi's usb ports. I am sure if you search about though you can find other good examples of powered usb hubs or power converters like the example I used. Sill a work in progress but getting close to finished. I think if I had come into it early enough (and still having second thoughts) I might have gone down this route;

Thanks for the reply. However I am not having a challenge powering my pi but to connect all the USB devices on the Pi and make sure they are all powered. So I was looking for a USB hub which I can power from 5v and attach with one cable to the Pi and provide me for example 4 ports. Any thoughts there?

Hi,
I have just started to use a D-Link DUB-H4 powered usb hub. Seems to work well so far. It is powered by one of theese:

The rpi itself is powered by another one.
