Hello everyone,

I'm working on a project and am seeking advice on how to best connect my autopilot, and whether I should use the fluxgate compass, MPU-9250, or the internal compass of the Raymarine Axiom 9.

Here's a rundown of my current setup:
  • Waveshare Isolated RS485 CAN Shield which is connected to my Axiom 9 via nmea 2000
  • ST6002 Autopilot Control Unit
  • Raymarine SmartPilot S1 (This is without the gyro. I'm exploring the possibility of making a digital gyro submit an analog signal.)
  • Raspberry Pi, which will be connected to the SmartPilot via NMEA 0183 (only input data to smartpilot)
  • The SmartPilot will be connected to a remote and the ST6002 via SeaTalk, and the ST6002 will then be connected to the Raspberry Pi via GPIO.

My main question revolves around compass selection. I'm weighing the pros and cons of using the fluxgate compass, the MPU-9250, or the internal compass of the Raymarine Axiom 9 to use with the SmartPilot.

If anyone has any experience with these compasses in a similar setup or could provide insights into which might perform better in this situation, your advice would be highly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your assistance!
