Hi,

Could you please give me some recommendations for some good gear for GPS / Compass options for OP.

Are people just using Magnetometers for the compass?

The Garmin GPS 24xd is an NMEA2000 GPS antenna with a magnetic heading sensor in built into it, so you kill two birds with 1 stone.
