Full Version: powering with 12v and 5v

Hello,
I just started on this a project a couple weeks ago. I connected a 12v power source to the MachArthur Hat and it works well. The gentle shutdown is very nice.

The trouble is that when I disconnect the 12v source and try to power the pi with the 5v power source the pi crashes after 10 seconds.

Does this make sense?

Paul
The Pi probably doesn't crash, but immediately shuts down because the HAT indicates that the 12V switch is off. To run from 5V you will have to disable automatic shutdown.

If you can't change the configuration because don't have 12V available, you can simulate the closed 12V switch by connecting 3.3V (pin 1 or pin 17) to GPIO21 (pin 40).. or alternatively, remove the MacArthur HAT.

Thanks Adrian. You are correct, it does immediately shut down. I apologize for the poor word choice. I will continue using the 12v power source.
