Share Bullet Wifi on 5Ghz AP ? - NahanniV - 2019-02-20

I’d like to set up the openplotter network to share the internet connection from an ethernet connected Ubiquity bullet Wifi antenna over a 5ghz Access Point in Openplotter.

I can’tsee an option to do that.

Cheers,
JM

please try to explain your setup better.

rpi3+ has 5ghz pi3 does not
"share the internet connection from an ethernet connected"
plug it in to ethernet and use eth0 as share under network tab..

OK, here are all the details:

All the 5Ghz access point options include bridging Eth0 and will not allow Eth0 to be shared.

The ethernet connected wifi bullet will only be connected when there is shore based wifi available.

Openplotter is always running on the rpi3b+. OpenCPN, anchor alarm, serving gps, ais, depth, etc... to mobile devices.

I want to have a 5ghz access point since 2,4ghz seems to interfere with my bluetooth devices.
At the moment I’m not using bluetooth on the rpi3b+, I stream music from a phone to bluetooth speakers, but In the future I would like to try using the rpi to play music over bluetooth.

Thanks,
JM.

bluetooth there's your problem ..just kidding

you dont need the 5g setting in openplotter the Ubiquity bullet takes care of it..it needs poe "power over ethernet"and be configured to connect https://www.cleancss.com/router-default/Ubiquiti/Bullet_M2HP
looking at that Ubiquity bullet all you need to do is plug it to eth0 choose appropriate setting for your pi version.no bridging , ap, ap\client, ap+client if using a dongle
it is basically a router, repeater so it will give the pi an ip address and should share eth0 with your wifi AP on the pi.
the 5g settings in openplotter are for the onboard wifi

The Bullet is working fine.

The problem is how do I get the Access Point on the RPi to be 5Ghz ?

RE: Share Bullet Wifi on 5Ghz AP ? - jim321 - 2019-02-21

changing the pi to 5ghz will have no effect against the bluetooth interference while you have a powerful 2.4 ghz ap.beaming out a signal."Ubiquity bullet "
the pi has very low power wifi..it should not interfere with a bluetooth signal..it is designed with both onboard so should not be a problem

It’s not just the Pi on 2.4Ghz it’s all the devices that are connecting to it as well.
And they are all in close proximity to the Bluetooth equipment.
The Bullet is generally hoisted 50’ up in the rigging.
Also the bullet is only in use when I want to connect to a distant shoreside accesspoint; the Rpi is on all the time.

On a router I would expect to see a drop dow box that lets you configure the radio to support: b/g/n, g, or n only.

In Openplotter there appears to be pre configured options, but there is no option to have a 5Ghz AP without briging etho.

Will I be able to do this on V2 ?
