However - the Moitessier hat cannot be mounted without an extra pin head and it's quite tricky to come by actually! Not a lot of places ship to Sweden these days so I've been hunting online for a couple of hours(!) for something as simple as a gpio duplicator with reasonable shipping time. Would be a great accessory to your shop glowntiger Wink

Hi, is this what you are looking for? https://www.amazon.com/Connectors-Raspberry-40-pin-Expansion-RAS-GP02/dp/B07MCW4KCM/ref=sr_1_51?keywords=40+pin+connector&qid=1570444309&sr=8-51

However Thomas should have them!  Smile

Indeed, but actually very hard to find that are shipping to Sweden right now. Had to buy a "DIY" kit after hours of searching :O

I cannot find the MCS Installer in the settings app as stated in the Readme file on github. I'm considering an order but first, is this ready? How is it installed?

Ciao, you need to download and install (the first time) the app: https://cloudsmith.io/~thomas-gersmann/repos/openplotter-mcs/groups/ See the attached instructions.

Max,

Thanks. It was pretty easy. Will be ordering the Moitessier Hat and the MCS kit soon. Is there anything else I will need other than the 40 pin adapter?

Ok, you will need the tape to connect the Pi to the MCS board ... see also the installation in Youtube:

Ciao and good wind!  Smile

I would appreciate a bit more details on the NMEA0183 interface settings, i hooked up an input and output. One of them indicated a red led and the other nothing, i'm not sure how and where to set the different options. Added interfaces in SignalK as a trial, also tried reading the serial outputs /dev/.... as root but all silent.

So that part of configuration is a bit unclear, read the german and english instructions but it does not cover many details.

Ciao, I think I can give you more information Thomas the manufacturer of the MCS card. I warned him! Good wind. Shy

Hi,
sorry for the late response.
For NMEA0183:
The LED indicates incoming data. For outgoing Data there is no LED because normaly you now when you send something… ;-)
The  availible serial interfaces are shown in the MCS app after Installation and reboot:

you can use them directly as /dev/ttySC1 and so on... but its recommend to use the openplotter serial app. After installation of the MCS App and a system restart you find the interfaces directly in the APP:

You must proof the recieving device of the NMEA0183 if it understand real NMEA0183 (RS422). Some older devices uses different physical interfaces for NMEA0183. The MCS Board can listen to almost every NMEA0183, but can only send real RS422 NMEA0183 Data!
The Serial interface can handle as a normal uart interface!
At the Moment i work on different further tutorials and an info site were all data are stored for a quick overview… ;-)

BTW: I have edit the first site with important links. Hope it helps… ;-)

I have edit this post to find information quickly:
Where to buy the Board: GeDaD Shop
How it Works: Quick Guide
How to install: Installation Guide
How to use the App:  App description
The code: Github
Technical Data: Technical Data
Manual: Manual (At the Moment only in German, work on the translation)
Deb Package: MCS App

Let me know if a link does not work or if you have further questions.

Hi Guys,
at the Moment I use Openplotter at my sailboat.
I have several NMEA0183 an a N2K device on it.
I´m not afraid of my installation. all is "tinkered together"
I design and sell in part time next to my job pcb for homeautomation.
I think about to design a PCB with "all on board" first for me but I also can imagen to sell it as open hardware (with CE)

What I want to ask here:
Is anyone intrested in somthing like that?
I search one who can make "the software side" so if anybody uses the board all runs out of the box? (I put the hardware ;-) )

For further Prices I think such a board is about 60€ without case and connectors.

I imaging somethink like that:

On the I2C conector you can bind several further I/O Modules like analog, digital In/out and so on.
Information an a overview of my hardware you found here: www.gedad.de

Wink  Ok Thomas, all the connections work. Thank's for your job!
