build progress of my rig - travis_farmer - 2019-07-03

ok, at first i was using an open circuit GPS receiver for testing. then i came across this: eBay Link. it just arrived today, and it works great with OpenPlotter. the slow-boat from China was a bit of a pain...
i have it running right now, just to make sure it is stable (don't know why not, but you never know), and it has been on for 4+ hours. positional drift seems to be within my needs.
now i am just waiting for my used keyboard/trackpad combo to show up. it is a compact vehicle mount unit, originally used for a cop car, but thanks to eBay, it will be a boat installed unit, when my boat re-build is done that is.
my screen is a little 10" or 12" screen that i will have to get a regulator for. it is rated for 12V regulated, so i don't think i can plug it right in. i have on my eBay watchlist some automatic boost-buck regulators, so that should solve that.
then i just have to get a waterproof box for the Rpi... though if the water is high enough to kill the Rpi, than a waterproof box is the least of my problems. Wink would be good to keep the humidity out of it though.

Just received the mobile keyboard/trackpad, and it sure was used in a cop car, as it is full of doughnut crumbs. Wink Big Grin
will need some heavy-duty cleaning, i would say.

other than that, it looks like it will handle the task. it even has back-lit keys.
