Buy CAN-USB converter - Celestine - 2019-10-07

I need a can-usb converter. The one in Sailoog webshop seem impossible to get hold of.
Can anyone suggest an alternative that will work with OP/OCPN without to much hazzle?
Cheers,
Pär W

Celestine, sorry we are really busy developing OP 2 and no time to maintain the shop now. When the HAT is back in stock we will add CAN-UB converters too.

OpenPlotter 2 supports these devices:

- https://shop.sailoog.com/converters/1-isolated-can-usb-stick.html
- https://canable.io/ (this is added but not tested yet because we do not have a device to test)
- Any device based on MCP2515 like: http://www.industrialberry.com/canberrydual-iso-v2-1/

Ok, I'll look into those.

The Canable board works great here. But you have to do some actions to get it working. You can use this direct with SignalK.
And with the conversion to NMEA183 for the use in OpenCPN.

There are two versions. One with optical separation.

I have flashed this very small board with the Candlelight firmware.

some extra details

OP2 supports 3 methods: actisense, CANable and MCP2515.

The actisense device will only work with the actisense method.
Our CAN-USB device can be set to work either the actisense method or the CANable method.
CANable device (and clones) will only work with CANable method.
Any device using the MCP2515 by SPI will only work with the MCP2515 method.

We will publish the openplotter-can app this week.

Thanks to verkerkbr for sending us a CANable board to test!!!!

Will do, which firmware option would you recommend: SOCKET CAN (gs_usb) or Virtual Com (SLCAN)

RE: Buy CAN-USB converter - Sailoog - 2020-10-29

According to this:
"UCCB has alternative firmware for that implments the gs_usb protocol. This is supported by the mainline Linux kernel and SocketCAN. It does not require use of slcand and should be more reliable at high bitrates. For this reason, GSUSB is recommended if you are only using UCCB on Linux."

I would say GSUSB but OpenPlotter is ready for slcand and I do not know if something should be done for gsusb, maybe small adaptations. I should try gsusb before recommending that.
