Pican stacking with moitessier? - jaziniho - 2021-01-04

I have a moitessier hat, and I was wondering if it’s possible for it to be stacked on top of a PiCan hat?

It looks like the PiCan hat has the pass throughs, but are there clashes in what pins they use, power drain or other things to consider?

Did you ever receive a reply to your query?

I'm interested in also knowing if/how to stack the moitessier hat, with a PiCan hat and whether their might be conflicts between the two.

Same question! Would a be perfect and cheap solution. Maybe a expert could confirm?

are you talking about this hat?

I am afraid it is not compatible with the moitessier hat because both of them use the SPIO bus, you need a HAT that uses SPI1

I was thinking of this HAT:

PiCAN-M with NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000 Connection + 3A SMPS

Sorry, same situation, they use SPI0 (GPIO08/pin 24).

The good news is that we are working on a new HAT fully compatible with the Moitessier HAT that will have NMEA 2000 using SPI1. Software for this new HAT is almost done and PCB design too but it will take still some months to have the first units.

Ah, so this would be a new HAT that can be stacked with moitessier and will provide NMEA 2000 connector to plugin to network?

Yes. Moitessier HAT was designed to be always on top because the GNSS antenna and the plan was to design another one to be between the Raspberry and the Moitessier HAT. It has NMEA 2000 and 0183 in and out, Seatalk 1 in and some others super-secret and amazing features Smile

The software for this HAT is almost done and the first PCB design is on the table, now we are searching for manufacturers here in Catalonia and some contacts have already done. Once the HAT is in the wild we will publish the source so anybody will be able to customize the HAT.

Before you ask... sorry I can not give any date yet because it is hard to say Smile

Sounds great!

I look forward to it...

And stuck in a pretty strict lockdown in the UK, so probably doesn’t matter if it’s still some months away!

Is there some progress on this?   I have another solution, to use another R.Pi and the Pican-M,  then connect it to the "Moitessier" Pi with WiFi and send signal K etc, but I am not sure this is a great solution ... better would be a version of the Pican-M that uses SPI1/CE0 ... but, I want to go sailing ... so let me know please if there is progress on this, or maybe I take the soldering iron to my Pican-M and move the wires to SPI1
