@Goshawk without any more details of your situation, my wild guess would be you need to update your pypilot to the latest version which is described in Step 7, bullet 9.

Feature request.
I would like to know more about remote controls. Which model to buy and how to set it up.
Also, I am struggling to understand how you run communication between a small, possibly tinypilot, pypilot computer and an openplotter system for more general functions with SignalK, opencpn etc.

I think this is fantastic, my only wish is that it existed years ago when I was starting out. I still stumble through it sometimes.... it will be a great resource going forward. With any luck it will divert questions to the developers, so they have more time to develop rather than support.

Yes and no ;-) In fact, I have already documented 3 ways, including the ultimate way to connect pypilot to signalk, and that is what you can read here https://github.com/pypilotWorkbook/workbook/wiki/Step-13-SignalK-connections. All you need to add is to make a signalk connection in opencpn, but this is trivial, and you are all set.
But I guess you want to know what it means to be all set. I'll see what I can do this weekend. I can have one subject on the specific interaction with opencpn - that's quite relevant I think.
The remote control I have no knowledge about. I'm afraid I would drop it in the water if I had made one. When I can buy one in the pypilot store, I'll do a write-up on it immediately.
For now, the next things I think I should work on is the missing Step 5, which is the placeholder for the pypilot hat, and new subjects on gains and pypilot settings, that seem to be editable in some UI's.

Thanks, for your reply. I appreciate your documentation very much! And as I gradually understand more I also realize what is actually there, so please bear with me. I will read and contemplate the contents that is relevant to my first "request".

most cheap 433mhz remote controls will work, and I also have complete source code and schematic to build your own 433mhz remote control.

I'm going through the workbook again in my efforts to make the motor controller work. I get to "Step 5 The HAT interface" and I wonder, what sort of HAT is this? There is no explanation or introduction. I must have missed something essential, again.
