I just replaced rtl_ais with AIS-Catcher running on a Nooelec RTL-SDR v5 SDR on RPi 4. With rtl_ais I can't see any ships/boats from my home. WIth AIS-Catcher and same settings for gain and hardware AGC it works much better and I can receive a lot of AIS signals from different ships/boats/Ferries on river Havel in Berlin Spandau. Exactly same position of the antenna.
I changed the setup.py to support AIS-Catcher so SDR VHF works as usal and I can switch between AIS and DAB or set parameters like ppm or gain.
But I tested only on RTL-SDR. I do not own a SDRPLAY.
