[SOLVED] Update Crash - SoakinJoe - 2024-10-03

I am running Pi 5 with MacArthur Hat, OP4 64 bit. It has been stable for about 4 months, performing well. An update was posted the other day and after installing and reboot the Pi froze halfway through. I had to power down the Pi completely.

The Pi now boots up but only as far as the desktop, no openplotter boot up screen, but there also are no toolbars and I can only see the trash and file folders. Nothing else works.

Anyone else have this problem and are there any work arounds.

I am not great with the Pi but know enough to follow instructions.

Yeah, some led's on the Mac Hat are on but OpenPlotter doesn't start.

I tried to reboot by opening the terminal with CTRL+ALT+T & trying sudo reboot or sudo shutdown but no response.
I could "play" with the desktop settings by right clicking then trying different sizes etc for the toolbar, but nothing worked.

I'm hoping someone with knowhow can come up with an easy fix as I don't want to do a complete re-install!!

Best way to back up?

put in a fresh spare sd card in a usb card reader into a usb slot in the pi then go to main menu / accessories / sd card copier

Thanks.

Well, I learned a couple of lessons today.

I am guessing by the lack of any other responses that the system is bricked and needs rebuilding ?

RE: Update Crash - sebba - 2024-10-04

so, no more updates from now on?

RE: Update Crash - SoakinJoe - 2024-10-04

Tried to rebuild with new image using uSD card and SSD disconnected. After a very slow boot up with USB power errors and multiple failed attempts at installing the standard updates, the unit seems to be a brick.

Not terribly impressed that such updates are allowed to be issued.

I'll keep trying, but expect to be buying a new unit when I get back home off the boat for winter.

Any helpful tips greatly appreciated.
