Daisy Hat not showing on Open Plotter - frustrated - EDELCAT33 - 2025-03-01

Hi,
I am kind of new, not very techie, and retired

About 3-4 years ago I purchased a Motessier II hat for my Rpi4 - long story short - it never worked and I decided to cut my losses this year  and purchase a Daisy Hat AIS detector

My set up is just basic - at home right now, just a monitor, a key board, and a wired mouse, the Daisy hatt, a connection to an antennae that was recommended for AIS - out the window, and a USB GPS

So now I erased everything, installed the latest vs of Open CPN, updated all the drives, etc 

Installed the FL charts ECN, got them to work, installed a USB GPS, and it shows in the OPEN CPN
Signal K shows Daisy Hat NMEA0183 Enabled = Yes and Dataloging = No


However - the Daisy Hatt looks like is working with the green flashing lights, but nowhere in the screen is anything I can see.

When I run "Check System" in Open Plotter, I get an error

So I m stump, not sure what to  do. I rebooted the RPI and it shows what I typed above, but when I run OPEN CPN - tells me:
 Safe restart
The last opencpn run seems to have failed. Do you want to run in safe mode without plugins and other possibly problematic features?
Whether I choose No or Yes - it looks the same - the chart looks loaded, the GPS shows the position of the "boat"

Remove the GPS connection you made in OpenCPN and connect the GPS and the DAISY HAT using the OpenPlotter Serial app. OpenCPN will get all the data from a single connection to the Signal K server. It's all here:

I did that, connected only to SIGNAL K both of them, got a more stable connection BUT when I ran "AIS target list..."  only listed 2 AIS stationary targets in the chart: one 15miles away, another 21 miles away. Mind you I live in Miami only 6 miles from the water where at any point in time there are up to 10 cruise ships, and countless of Yachts. So not sure why I am seen 2 from my AIS list - the antenna is sticking outin open air and 20 ft height 

But when I reboot or check system -  I keep getting the message that a gps is connected to opencpn without aliases:

I dont know how to print screen something directly from the Rpi  to be able to add it to this email - but I will type below every line I see at the OpenPlotter application menu for:

So the gps is somehow still connected to OpenCPN ans also to Signal K. 
I googled how to un-installed from OpenCPN and got nothing. 
When I either try to edit or remove (right side of the screen), I get a message "Sorry, an existing instance of OpenCPN may be too busy to respond. Please retry."  
or worse when I try to hit the Remove button, I get a flash back to the OpenCPN chart....

Sorry for the length of message but  I am trying to be Thorough.
one quick thing - when I log into Signal K the connections dashboard looks like this:

I am planning to install a NEMA connection with my wind instruments, depth sounder, and autopilot next, not sure about the VHF - but wanted to see if this first works before i muddle the waters

Can anybody help me here?  I provided information after I followed the brief instructions from Sailoog - I do not want to reformat again the card and start again for the 5th time. There is got to be a simple answer I can understand.

Error message looks like you still have an unnecessary  connection in opencpn, you could try -
double check the opencpn connections in the connections tab of settings, try with just 1 connection, TCP local host port 10110 . Should be set up already, delete any others. No signalk connections.
Delete all connections in signalk & restart it, let openplotter set up the connections so maybe start again in the openplotter serial app, delete everything & start again. Looks like your setup has GPS speed at 38400, seems unusual, usual more like 4800 or maybe 9600 for a USB dongle. 

Then give it a go  Cool

I have tried several time to do this and re-read many times the instructions. 

I see connected into UART0 the gps and daisy hat to Signal K, but continue to see a gps0 with no alias to OpenCPN.
I still have showing the GPS on connection ID2 at 4800 baud rate. Everytime I tried to delete or edit at the CPN options menu, or if I go to the Serial Menu and try to edit or delete - I get a message that "Sorry, an existing instance of Open CPN may be too busy to respond, Please retry" or the menu dissapear altogether

From a software performance - I see the GPS and Daisy Hat are in the Signal -K menu as anywhere from 50 - 100%.
From an AIS perspective I can only see 2 stationary AIS stations 17nmiles and 13 nmlies from me, as well as my bright orange chinese "AIS" - which is basically a commercial fish net finder. I do not see any other boats or ships (I live in Miami, so plenty of boats)

So not sure what else to do. I am uploading low quality images so you can see

Looks like it's working OK, you won't get much from an antenna out a window on land, even in a marina the other masts can attenuate the signals & the range can be limited. The AtoN doesn't exist in the real world, it will be transmitted from the base station which generally seem to be able to punch through much further then class A or B so it sounds what you might expect.

Paddy I understand that - but I still have the error log on OPEN CPN that is reading the same USB GPS that is connected to SIGNAL K - it shows as connected to Open CPN without an alias.

My younger kid just came from college spring break and he is a computer engineer - so doing a lot of linux programing - maybe he can figure it our - when I read the manual - there is nothing there to tell you how to un-install the GPS to OpenCPN - every time I tried to either edit the connection or remove it - the command crash after it tells me that it CPN is busy and to try later

I still have not resolved my original issue on how to disconnect this USB GPS from OpenCPN

with some hunting managed to recreate similar by adding a connection in opencpn - 

Are you sure there is no connections in opencpn other than localhost:10110? (and :3000 if you want opencpn to receive signalk data as well as nmea10110)

Below is ama2 & ama3 set up through the serial app connected to signalk, ama4 connected to signalk  using sigk server/connections & ama5 connected to opencpn and an unconnected pypilot
