New project: Pypilot Nix - gponcon - 2026-06-25

Hello everyone,

I’d like to introduce the Pypilot Nix project, a NixOS configuration for Pypilot. I created it because I need a robust, declarative, reproducible, and up-to-date system that doesn’t rely on major updates that could break everything.

I have tailored this project to my needs but I am ready to adapt it to your expectations if you want to adopt it.

This is really interesting work. I enjoy the concept of nix, but do not really enjoy the very strange nix language.

This is a replacement for openplotter and similar systems for all in one marine computer, not tinypilot which is specifically for running pypilot (usually on a pi zero)

Thanks for posting this and will be watching for more developments.

Thanks, Sean. I agree with your analysis.

Nix is truly innovative; it takes a little time to appreciate the language and the concept.

I proposed this package : https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/535993

There's little chance it will be approved, but you never know.
