NMEA 0183 into Signal K
#1
Hi !

RaspberyPi 5
MacArthure Hat
OpenPlotter 4

So I dont know if i'm missing something in the configuration, but I dont receive the NMEA 0183 data into "data browser".

I connected my old wind instruments in the RPI. I configured the serial port and the connection to signalk. When I go to "server Logs" and select the appropriate debug keys, I can see all the NMEA 0183 data, so signal k can read the data from my instruments.

Data sample that I'm receiving:
"Jul 13 11:45:50 2024-07-13T15:45:50.052Z signalk-server:events:connection:nmea1:nmea0183 $IIMTW,025.37,C
Jul 13 11:45:50 2024-07-13T15:45:50.085Z signalk-server:events:connection:nmea1:nmea0183 $VWVLW,09969.000,N,,
Jul 13 11:45:50 2024-07-13T15:45:50.152Z signalk-server:events:connection:nmea1:nmea0183 $VWVHW,,T,,M,000.00,N,000.00,K
"

But I dont see any "connection" in the "data browser", so I'm not capable of using and showing theses data into Kip.
It seems like SerialK doesn't recognize the data...

Do I miss something ?

Thank you for you help !

Thank you for you help !

All your nmea messages seem to be missing the checksum off the end, website can calculate it for testing >
https://nmeachecksum.eqth.net/

With the correct checksum added they seem to be recognized OK ,
VWVLW,09969.000,N,, >  $VWVLW,09969.000,N,,*23

Then you can paste nmea sentences into the data fiddler in the server to check.

You could try in the connection - turn off validate checksum and turn on append checksum but something sounds wrong that that are getting sent with no checksum to begin with  Huh

Ho I see ! I didn't see that my messages were missing the checksum... I can not explain either. If this can help for other people, my insturments are Navico Corus with the Navico "NMEA 600" controller to send the NMEA 0183 informations.

So I tried to turn off validate checksum and turn on append checksum and it works ! So if I understand, "append checksum" add the checksum to the message ?

Thank you a lot for your help ! You answered really fast.
