I've had too many SD cards fail - I use SSDs now.
As for power supplies, I've found that the buck converters rated at 3A really don't provide it, and certainly the voltage goes down to below 4.8V when under a lot of load. They also generate a great deal of RF noise, which effects my VHF and my SSB. What I have on my boat now is a separate 30A 12V - 5V buck converter with it's own fuse block. That probably sounds a bit extreme, but I like the the buck converters with the cast metal cases, as I can ground the case to give a little more RFI protection.
