Pypilot working on my Nicholson 44

I have a similar Neco Autopilot Neco NM 692 and also a two mast sailing boat.

I want to convert the logic to a modern system, but existing autopilots rather expensive.

I still need to buy a complete system (would like to make it NMEA2000)
1) Autopilot CU (Simrad / Pypilot?)
2) sensor inputs for the CU: 1) rudder 2) compass 3) wind
3) AIS transponder with VHF cable splitter and integrated GPS
4) Wifi transponder so i can see my all sensors on my ipad and upload planned routes from Navionics on my ipad/tablet
5) Autopilot control on both steering wheels

What would i need to buy: with Simrad the conversion of the Neco is very simple, not sure how much work it would be with Pypilot.

Interesting project.

Thanks,

M

Hi M.

I have sold the boat about 10 month ago. But I think you will get an good impression of wath you need to get a working pypilot in this thread
in concrete and in this forum in general.

The advantage of Pypilot/Openplotter is not only the price of the components but also the satisfection and understanding of what you have on your boat and
the indipendence to fix it your self if something fails.

On the other hand it is a lot of learning and work until you get there, more if you have to start from zero refering the electronic or computer stuff.
But also it is a lot of fun.

So you should know wich way is the right one for you.

Save sailing
Andreas
