In reality, I think I'll have a better chance training the dog to swim ashore with a clove hitch and drop it over a bollard.
I would like to hack something to show up on that lovely MFD screen though. There are general alarm message PGNs that could be customised, it could perhaps just display the metres and the sensor ID, "Port stern 3M" etc. The only proximity PGN thing I saw was AIS alarms, I don't think that's appropriate.
I've thought about cameras too, but the audio feedback is more likely to be useful when you are busy running around with lines.
I can usually guess well enough these days, but I've had the boat for years now, it would be great to have shortened that learning curve, and saved me a bit of gel coat filler.
