Seatalk input, MacArthur HAT and rpi5. Options?
#11
Update.

I have spent months on this with little progress, but now Adrian has achieved some encouraging results. I would not like to be too optimistic, but we will probably have Seatalk1 working soon on the MacArthur HAT for Raspberry 5 and 4.

Good news, thank you Smile
But Seatalk1 works with RPI4, right?

"Hardware Software
Raspberry Pi model 3 OpenPlotter v3.x.x (NMEA 0183 inputs and outputs do not work)
Raspberry Pi model 4 OpenPlotter v3.x.x, OpenPlotter v4.x.x
Raspberry Pi model 5 OpenPlotter v4.x.x (Seatalk1 input does not work yet)"

Yes, currently it works only on RPi 4. The new script should work on both using the same library.

This sounds like great news. So when you say same library, I was under the impression that it was using the pigpio library. Is this correct? Has someone managed to get the library to work on a Pi 5? I would love to be able to migrate everything over to my Pi 5, I have to keep the v4 for Seatalk which is a bit crazy and I was starting to look into Pico and PIO, which is way above my skill set.

pigpio will never work on RPi 5.

For the new script we will use gpiod which works on RPi 4 and 5: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/libs/libg...git/about/

Is there anywhere we can get a sneak peak at the this? I have been trying to figure it out for ages but I am not skilled enough to know where to begin.

Update

Everything works like a charm and will be implemented in the next Signal K server update. After updating the SK server, we will publish a new version of openplotter-gpio app to easily set this connection and we will also update the MacArthur HAT docs.

You can follow the discussion here: https://github.com/SignalK/signalk-server/issues/1658
