OpenPlotter 3 roadmap
#21
While maybe not fully relevant to this thread, I'm a little closer to diagnosing the problem with USB boot on my Raspberry pi 4B 8GB. A while ago I updated the bootloader EEPROM firmware from the original 'SD' to the 'USB' boot and it seems that this is part of the problem.

I suspect it is a timing problem initialising the USB compounded by the bootloader/Bullseye OS and hardware combinations.

Here are the combinations used in my tests and the warnings/error messages displayed:

USB Bootloader + Openplotter 2 (or Buster based OS) = boots OK with SSD no errors

USB Bootloader + Openplotter 3 (or Bullsyeye based OS) = boots with SSD but gives warning during boot "mmc1: Controller never released inhibit bit(s)."

USB Bootloader + Openplotter 3 (or Bullsyeye based OS)+ generic Ralink USB Wifi dongle = boots with SSD but gives warning during boot "mmc1: Controller never released inhibit bit(s)." and multiple "usb 1-1.3: device descriptor read/64, error -32" errors and "usb 1-1.3:device not accepting address x, error-71" errors and usb 1-1-port3 unable to enumerate USB device"

Downgrading to the SD card boot EEPROM firmware (from the Raspberry pi imager v1.6.2 options) gives no boot errors with all the combinations I tried.

Paul

all my OpenCPN versions on several systems, also Linux Mint,amd64, run in the Flatpak mode. I think that becomes the standard for OpenCPN and the plugins.

As you can see in the image, data from my GPS mouse works from the SignalK server. The Oesenc charts plugin for the usb plug also works. But therefore you need the beta plugins.

Not all the the apps are available. But with my  "hand" installed Debian Bullseye for the RPI extended with the OpenPlotter extra's. Every thing allready works !

Doing also a test with the Ubuntu Jammy Jelly. There the OpenPlotter add-ons does not work.

I'am using a Pi4 with 2 GB.

Bram

- Flatpak is only the standard for arm64 and no Debian distributions. For the rest of Debian derivatives the recommended way is using PPA sources including armhf.

- There is not beta version of "oeSENC plugin", are you talking about the new "o-charts plugin"?

- Although an OpenPlotter 2 app could be forced and installed in OpenPlotter 3 it does not mean that it works. Everything must be revised and deeply tested before publishing.

- As I have told you many times OpenPlotter add-ons will never work in non LTS Ubuntu versions.

Hi Sailoog,

[important update on my comment below - I realised that I hadn't re-imaged the SSD following my USB issue testing. Having done this, the refreshed SSD image now boots as expected, completing the Check System checks as expected]

I have just noticed a nuance with SSD boot: On SSD boot (USB3), the Check System dialogue flashes up only momentarily in the taskbar (next to the check system button) whereas when booting from SD (connected usb3 card reader) the window opens and steps through the checks until complete.

Paul

Bonjour,
I installed OpenPlotter 3 on an RPI3+. It works well and fast including OpenCPN 5.6.
But SignalK does not start? :

I'am running here for some time the RaspiOS 64 bits for Arm64 Debian Bullseye with the added OpenPlotter extra's, the advanced version from your site,

And everything works, Serial, Network, Wireless Acces point, AIS with RTL-DSR dongle, OpenCPN flatpak version 5.6. SignalK installation done be "hand".

Yes Oesenc plugin works indeed with the latest beta version.

Regards,

Bram

Try the follow the development of Ubuntu Jammt Jellyfish. LTS version expected in April.

- If you are OK giving support to all people with troubles running OP 2 apps under Raspberry OS 64bit, I will publish all those apps today.

- There is not beta version of "oeSENC plugin", are you talking about the new "o-charts plugin"?

- We will test OP 3 in Ubuntu Jammy in April, not before.

You must activate the SignalK server start with: sudo signalK-server-setup.
Then it starts at the boot.

NO. You do not have to do that at all. The openplotter signal k installer does all the required tasks.

Please uninstall the OpenPlotter signal K installer app.

Install the app again from OpenPlotter Settings and paste here any error you get in the installation log
