Is Open Plotter the same as Opencpn
#1
I expect everyone will think this is a stupid question but I'm just starting out here and it's somewhat confusing having these two separate software titles that seem to pop-up together so often.

I'm trying to install Open Plotter on my Raspberry Pi but after downloading the plugins I'm no further at getting the maps to show up on the desktop than I was when I started. It's more frustrating when I'm here looking at these posts thinking all these members have Open Plotter set up and running and I can't even install the bloody maps.

To make it more simple for 75yr old like me is to get someone who has got this software up and running with all the maps installed to clone the micro sd card and sell me one. I'll even pay for the postage and your time.

Anyway, in the meantime, I'll search for a video tutorial that does everything to install the maps and get it working onboard a boat.

Thanks for your time.

Michael.

Hello,
There are no stupid questions!!!

OpenCPN is a single programme that handles the display and management of the maps. In very simple terms, a map display programme.

Openplotter is a collection of different programs some in the form of app's. OpenCPN is one of them.

As for your problem with the maps. It might be easier to have someone look at your system. If you don't know anyone who knows computers, they can help you remotely via Teamviewer and phone.
That's what I do with my father when he has a problem.
What country are you from and what language do you speak?
Greetings Jürgen

The manual is the best first port of call =>

To install charts you need to have some first, some parts of the world like the USA give them away for free, you can get these in the chart downloader tab.

Quite a few youtube tutorials here =>

Thanks a lot, Lads
I'll definitely take a look at the links you provided and get those maps sorted out once and for all.

Cheers

You use maps to drive to the local supermarket, at sea you use nautical charts. Rolleyes

Next thing you know, you'll be telling us it's a "head" not a toilet, that they're "lines" not ropes, that we sleep in "berths" not beds, and those poles over there are "piles". You people talk funny!

If anyone wants me, I'll be abaft in the galley.
