Are Py Pilots available, and if so why is the shop down?
#1
Hi all

I'd like to look into getting a Py Pilot to drive the Autohelm 4000+ actuator on a J/36 yacht. However, the Py Pilot shop has gone 404. Are they still available?  If so, will a Py Pilot work with the Autohelm 4000+ and Taktix instruments? Thanks

Hello
For the 404, look at the attached screenshot with Sean's explanation.
He is honest enough to close the site so as not to collect orders while waiting to have developed his new products.
For your other questions, look at Sean's manual. There are possibilities to enter a wind vane and a GPS in NMEA0183.
The tacktick does not have this NMEA0183 output as standard. Do you have a Tacktick to NMEA0183 converter?
If so, you can use it with pypilot

I got one maybe half a year ago. I had to email him and be persistent and understanding that he is a one-man-band doing this out of love/interest/hobby. I hope that someone can take up the mantle if he gets too underwater. I don't have the deep tech skills but can do warehousing and slow shipping if ever a need came up. I want to support this project so we can have more sailors out there.

In the SF bay, I think it's crazy to single hand without and autopilot.

Yes, please be patient.

I have a few potential leads to hopefully make the pilots available in the near future but at the moment I cannot really do anything. The project remains as always free software!

And Sean - thank you so much for doing this! I have now sailed from Portland Oregon up halfway through Baja with your incredible technology.

I replaced my autohelm with a pypilot. I'm delighted. Not sure if this answers your question. I kept the wheel drive part, the st4000. I ditched the "brain" (aka the auto helm 4000).

I hope that assists. Not sure if it is responsive. I think you may be misusing terms, but it may be misunderstanding.

Sean is pretty good at responding in the forums. Eventually. I know when I was looking to buy the store was down for weeks but Sean eventually surfaced and I was able to order.

I too am hoping they become available soon.  I have been looking into them and waited to get back to the boat before ordering as needed to check which version. Seems the wait now means they are no longer available.  At least for the time being.   Understandably so, I saw one of Sean's videos where he was building all of these on his boat, impressive how he got as many as he did out there.  Though I do hope things change soon and he is able to get them out again,  my Autohelm 6000 really needs to be updated to make an atlantic crossing feasible Wink
