I would hire a developer

I am working on openplotter-iot app right now. This OpenPlotter app is in charge of managing Signal K thresholds and notifications, visual and sound alarms, MQTT, running external commands... and it would be the place for this SMS feature too. I will publish the first alpha for this app in some days but it will contain only the basic stuff. Let me know in case someone wants to work on the SMS part.

Thank you Sailoog. Please prioritize it as the net has several example when a boat was lost - often meaning the home of a liveaboard - due to anchor drag or mooring buoy fail while they are on shore. None of the other anchor watch applications has such an sms feature, so it would really make openplotter ahead of all competition in this segment.

New topic - same story: if someone is interested/willing to develop it, I am happy to finance the time/effort to a reasonable extent.

So, here it goes: "watch commander"

in case of long offshore passages, the person on the helm normally takes about 10 minutes intervals between the horizon/route check. It practically means a 10 minute nap between every 360 visual check.
The watch commander can be set to a time interval, after which it activates a buzzer. If the buzzer is muted by a button within 15 sec, the countdown starts again. If not, a much louder alarm is activated to wake up everybody aboard as the person at the helm may fall overboard or other issues preventing him/her to mute the buzzer.

Such a watch commander is a great safety feature - currently priced quite high (USD 200+) - it could be another feature which sets open cpn apart from all other chartplotter.
