New OpenPlotter images 2020-12-16

Any idea how many Users there are of OpenPlotter?

Perhaps number of downloads ?

Thanks

We do not know the total amount because it is difficult to calculate but we know the daily downloads.

There is an average of 60 downloads every day. After the release of a new version this goes up to 100 daily downloads for 3 months aprox and then stabilizes in 60 aprox.

With these numbers we had to pay for a server because free plans do not allow that traffic but by the moment it is paid by donations and profits from the shop selling product like the Moitessier HAT. We are working on new openplotter features and new products so it seems that this project will be in good health for a while Smile

Hope the Rocco guys can publish their update soon Wink

PS: cant remember how to roll-back to previous version - maybe a dedicated reset function as part of the op-moitessier hat app would be a nice feature.

The driver for the Moitessier HAT and kernel 5.4.83 was published some days ago. Do you have any problem?

FYI. This driver is automatically built after an officisal release of a new kernel for Raspberry OS but sometimes they make big changes in kernel that break the driver and it is not published after Rocco guys can fix it. But this time it worked and the next day the driver was available.

Is that the beta kernel?

Moitessier HAT drivers and OpenPlotter releases are based only in stable kernels and we will never use beta kernels to build them.

Hi Sailoog,

that is the latest kernel version which came with the RaspiOS upgrade.

V7 for 32 bits and V8 for 64 bits.

Not a beta version from raspi-upgrade.

I have just upgraded this morning and the stable is 5.4.83 not 5.10.5. You are using the beta. Be careful because this could cause problems for someone.

this is the safe way to update to stable versions:

Code:
sudo apt update
sudo apt full-upgrade

https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentatio...pdating.md

and this is what you should NOT do if you want to have only the stable kernel:

Code:
sudo rpi-update

https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentatio...-update.md

I'm announcing the release of the 5.10.5 kernel.

All users of the 5.10 kernel series must upgrade.

The updated 5.10.y git tree can be found at:
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-5.10.y
and can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser:
https://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/g...le/linux-s...

thanks,

greg k-h

Raspberry OS has its own repository, do not install kernels from no one else. Obviously you can do it but not in onboard and production systems.

Hi Sailoog,

the kernel 5.10.5 comes from the RaspiOS repository and not from another source.

Of course, from the beta RaspbiOS Big Grin

this is the raspberry repo: https://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware
there you can see the "master" branch, the development branch, and you can read 5.10.5.
but if you switch the branch to the "stable" branch you will see 5.4
believe me, you may not remember but I am sure you ran "rpi-update" at some point and every time you update your system you update to the beta kernel.

I had looked at Rocco web site rather than check just with download button  Confused  All fine now, have updated to 5.4.83
trust web site will get updated also.

Thanks for your help!
