Clipper Wireless Wind Masthead & Data Box NMEA 0183 : where can I get one ?

And also I will be interested in any experience return on the matter : integration in OP2, TRue wind vs apparent wind modes, any hint andhow to, etc.

Hi Didier,

I have the NASA Clipper NMEA 0183 masthead unit connected to OP2 on RPi4. Installation was easy, it has three wires: power, ground and NMEA (blue). I used a Digital Yacht NMEA to USB adaptor, as I had one from another project/boat but I'm sure others will work (https://digitalyacht.co.uk/product/usb-nmea-adaptor/). I also have the cockpit display as my RPi/display is below decks. I have not got apparent wind to the display yet, I only set this up last year and it was a very short season what with restrictions on travel here between England and Wales. Atm I take the blue wire from the masthead unit to both USB adaptor and cockpit display. What I need to do is output the Wind data and SoG or GPS from the RPi and input that to the cockpit display in order to get apparent wind. A job for this spring.

You can get it from NASA marine (https://www.nasamarine.com/product/tacti...st-sensor/) or from most chandlers, e.g. https://www.force4.co.uk/. Make sure you order the Nasa Clipper Tactical Wind System, the previous version did not output NMEA from the masthead unit. You can buy masthead unit separately if you do not want the display, £175 for the masthead £270 including the display from NASA marine but I got the later for £245 from Force 4. I looked around last year to add wind to my Freedom 21 and this was the cheapest option.

Hope this helps,

Chris
