SDR VHF setup
#1
Hi,
I sucessfully installed a RTL-SDR dongle v.3 and have no issue with GQRX, DAB (although I can't find any station but it might just be an antenna issue) and AIS (although I still need to test AIS with an antenna and signals).
ADS-B was working when I wrote this post, see update in my second post.
I calibrated it and I am stuck trying to make the DVB-T application working. When I try to do the scan it gives me this error:

w_scan -ft -c US -L
w_scan version 20170107 (compiled for DVB API 5.10)
using settings for UNITED STATES
ATSC
VSB US/CA, DVB-T TW
scan type TERRCABLE_ATSC, channellist 1
output format vlc xspf playlist
output charset 'ISO-8859-1'
Info: using DVB adapter auto detection.
/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0 -> "Realtek RTL2832 (DVB-T)" doesnt support TERRCABLE_ATSC -> SEARCH NEXT ONE.
main:4007: FATAL: ***** NO USEABLE TERRCABLE_ATSC CARD FOUND. *****
Please check wether dvb driver is loaded and
verify that no dvb application (i.e. vdr) is running.

I know that the dongle should work but I have no idea what other application could be disturbing the process or if the driver is loaded or how to load it.
Also, yes I made sure openplotter-rtl_ais, dump1090-fa and piaware were not running (thru OpenPlotter SDR VHF).
Could anyone please help me out.
Best regards.
Romain

I tried to uninstall and reinstall it and now ADS-B doesn't work anymore.
I also think that DAB isn't working properly but I'll be able to tell for sure when I'll try with a proper antenna.
I get the message:

Problem fetching data from dump1090.
AJAX call failed (error). Maybe dump1090 is no longer running?
The displayed map data will be out of date.

After digging around, I think there is a problem with lighttpd which doesn't want to start. Here is the journal:

Although I got it to start by removing the 89-dump1090-fa.conf file, it didn't solve the issue.
Finally, here is the piaware status :

PiAware master process (piaware) is running with pid 6163.
PiAware ADS-B client (faup1090) is running with pid 6200.
PiAware ADS-B UAT client (faup978) is not running (disabled by configuration settings)
PiAware mlat client (fa-mlat-client) is not running.
Local ADS-B receiver (dump1090-fa) is running with pid 6128.
dump1090-fa (pid 6128) is listening for ES connections on port 30005.
faup1090 is connected to the ADS-B receiver.
piaware is connected to FlightAware.
dump1090 is producing data on localhost:30005.
Your feeder ID is 34465f58-06a3-4141-88b2-61c43fe971a4 (from /var/cache/piaware/feeder_id)

I'm running out of ideas. Any input anyone?

Just a little update on ADS-B which wasn't working anymore.
The faulty file was 89-dump1090-fa.conf in /etc/lighttpd/conf-enable.
Even though I tried to dump and reinstall lighttpd as well as dump1090-fa, it didn't solve the issue and that file was still somehow making trouble.
I went to flightaware dump1090 GitHub and downloaded it from there, replace mine by the fresh one and that fixed it.

That still doesn't solve the fact that I can't have DAB and DVB-T working.
I upgraded my power supply for a 5A so it is not that.
Now I'm just wondering what other process could be interfering with the RTL-SDR.
