Sailor Hat with ESP32
Hi all,

Let me introduce Sailor Hat with ESP32 (SH-ESP32). The SH-ESP32 is an ESP32 development board designed specifically for marine use, featuring an integrated 8-32V protected power supply and an integrated NMEA 2000 compatible isolated CAN bus interface. It allows you to create custom sensors and control devices that connect to Signal K and OpenPlotter or directly to NMEA 2000. The board includes opto-coupled signal input and output (one channel each), as well as protected 1-wire and I2C interfaces. There's also a micro USB port for flashing and direct host communication as well as a GPIO header exposing all usable ESP32 GPIOs. Finally, the board includes an ample proto board area for customizations.

Example use cases:
  • NMEA 2000 USB gateways
  • Temperature monitoring
  • Tachometers (RPM meter)
  • Tank level monitoring
  • Relay controlling (lights, blowers, anchor winch)
  • Attitude sensors
  • Electronic compasses

Thanks! SH-ESP32 works as-is with SensESP. There is a reasonable amount of examples available in that repo.

Having said that, I'm right now about to start writing tutorial-type examples for different use cases specifically for SH-ESP32. My plan is to start with an NMEA 2000 gateway example and move on to 1-Wire temperature measurement, RPM meter, tank level measurement etc.

Since NMEA 2000 USB topics have been discussed on this forum before, I'll provide a link to a tutorial I just wrote: it's quite easy to convert the SH-ESP32 into a fully functional N2K USB gateway.
