IP Camera latency
#1
Is anyone using IP camera's on their boat?

I have one that I was going to mount somewhere forward of the mast - either on the mast or around the bow however, I have been testing at home and see about 0.5s latency from camera to screen when using the camera's own web based interface and over a second for viewing via VLC

what program are you using to view them? what latency are you experiencing?

I used an IP camera on a friend’s boat, and I must say it worked perfectly well. In my opinion, it works better around the bow.

Was it wireless or wired into the network? Do you think it would be fast enough to aid with docking/mooring?

Was can you describe the system and viewer used?

I came across this (has some explanation too):

https://www.rhombussystems.com/blog/...deo-streaming/

I've built in support for IP cameras into my OS image (VLC and MotionEye)

https://github.com/bareboat-necessities/lysmarine_gen

and I'd love to see at least one low cost solution with low latency (especially in low light)
Download BBN Marine OS for raspberry pi

One humble and maybe too basic question.
What's the difference between open plotter and this Os?

Huh

There are too many to list. It’s probably will take me more time to write and list them
than for you just to try both.
I’ve used openplotter last season.
Learned about some flaws and tried to address them
in this OS. It can be new platform for new generation of some
Openplotter scripts but it can work without openplotter.

Which flaws please? A big plus of openplotter is the active user base and quick response of bugs by the developers - it would be good to check any bugs you found have been sorted out, ta.

Yes community is nice. The flaws were in Raspberry OS UI itself (not openplotter per-se), usability.
In order to see what was sorted out you would have to download my OS image and see how it compares with openplotter for average user,
because it's quite different. It wasn't about bugs. The bugs I find I do report.

Ah, OK, thanks. OP/signalk does everything I need and much more so will stick with that ta, no need for most of the bits in your image though looks nice  ?

Glad you're having a nice experience with OP/signalk. Unfortunately, my case is literally the opposite from yours Sad
