hi, i'm looking for a cheap wind sensor and i found this item

it has a rs323 bus, how can i use and connect with open plotter, is this possible?

There're different ways you can solve this. My preference is to connect any RS232 interface using a converter to USB. All USB connections are recognized by Open Plotter and integrate nicely.

Something like this may work, though as with many cheap items, some of them are rather unreliable.

This may solve the electrical part. But I'm wondering what data the sensor sends over the RS232 interface and if Open Plotter can understand that correctly.

I think this one is not a good solution for a boat as the output is 16 orientation and so not very precise.
You should find one with continuous and 1 - 5 V signal. Together with an arduino you can use it with openplotter.
