SK not reading PICAN w/ gps + gyro + accel CAN
#1
Hi, I am new to OpenMarine and trying to set up a system.
As Motessier and McArthur are both unavailable I am trying a different approach.

I found this HAT form SKPANG: PiCAN with GPS + Gyro +Accelerometer CAN-Bus
which also includes a magnetic sensor for compass functionality.
The HAT is designed for Rpi 3, but it runs successfully a Rpi 2B I had lying around with a clean Raspi Lite OS.
I installed the software as described in the manual and further confirmed connection to the GPS and I2C sensor.

I realize the Rpi 2B I'm using is too sluggish to run full OpenPlotter, but I hope to use it as a situation awareness provider. The plan is to gather position, compass heading and gyro/acc. data on the Rpi 2B and use these data on a Rpi 4 running full OpenPlotter or BBN. I also plan on installing a PICAN-M on the Rpi 4, only problem is all providers seem to be sold out of Rpi 4's as well.

For principal testing I re-installed the Rpi 2B with openplotter Basic image and the required software for the HAT.
In console I confirm there is GPS data on both /dev/ttyAMA0 and the alias /dev/ttyOP_gps and the MPU-6050 is visible on address 0x68.
PyPilot also displays "live" IMU data in the calibration window, but I can't seem to get anything in Signal K from /dev/ttyOP_gps.

Does anyone have experience with this HAT?
Is there another way?

Cheers,
Frode
