Autopilot ideas
#1
I want your feedback before I decide to go forward with this idea. I have an old but fully functional Autohelm autopilot. Two ST7000 control panels, Type 100 course computer, linear drive and rudder sensor. What I'm planning is to build an autopilot that runs in parallel with the course computer but uses the same control panels and actuator. The idea is to have an Arduino with a couple of relays to share the rudder sensor and actuator between the two units. I also need to come up with a way to make sure only one AP sends seatalk commands to the control panels. This way I will have a backup for the course computer and I can compare performance with the switch of a button.

My own AP will have its own IMU and the long term goal is to try to test implementing a ML algorithm to control the boat.

Any feedback or ideas are more than welcome.
