calibrate roll and pitch (heeland pitch)
#1
Hi,

how can I calibrate roll and pitch? When I level my pilot, the roll axis is shown as pitch. Further the MPU is not mounted in line with any of the boat axis. Since I read the data into opencpn and would use heel as input for more correct TWA calculation it would be good if that heel is correct.

If you really need proper roll and pitch, I guess for now you'd need to reorient the IMU. See this thread https://forum.openmarine.net/showthread....2#pid17922

pitch and roll cannot be distinguished without setting the heading offset.   Try adding or subtracting 90 from this.

Thanks. Certainly, I get pitch and roll correct setting this offset. About calibration: Will it do some "3d calibration" if I try to heel/pitch the boat? Like tacking in waves etc?

yes, tacking while heeling works to perform a 3d compass calibration. It is only needed to give accurate heading while heeled.
