VNC server only working with RealVNC client?
#1
Hi all,

I deployed OpenPlotter and was surprised to find that I could only establish a VNC connection using a RealVNC Viewer client.
I was unable to connect via common viewers like Tightvnc, Remmina, Vinagre on Ubuntu.

Has anyone already got to the bottom of what to do here?

Reminna returns "unknown authentication scheme".
I noticed that the VNC server is setup to authenticate via Unix authentication.

I see some people remove the default VNC server (which appears to be RealVNC server?) and replace with another one. Is that the go?

Cheers

1. Have you tried to run vncserver as root and next perform test if it works?
2. Please provide the script xstartup from ~/.vnc

OpenPlotter tries to be as less intrusive as possible in the host and RealVNC server is the default in Raspberry OS. not sure about the compatibility with other clients but you can uninstall RealVNC server and install any other. In my experience RealVNC server is the most stable in Raspberry OS and being maintained by Raspberry developers is a plus.
