[SOLVED] Latitude conversion, N2K to NMEA0183
#11
@MatsA if you are not familiar with github or gitbook do not worry, use the documentation forums and we will copy paste for you. Thanks.

@Sderbyshire yes, they are available and improved. Now isolated:

@all, do not worry guys you can talk about the actisense device here if this helps to OP users. We are not trying to make money here, we are trying to get something better than proprietary software/hardware. All features available for the actisense are available for our CAN-USB Stick besides of some improvements. We talk about some of them on documentation but we are not going to be more specific, we do not want actisense to get angry Smile

Hi !

Sorry don't really understand Your answer... My input to the system is N2K.... what function is converting per default ??
For the moment I'm using the NMEA konverter to send the DPT sentence to OpenCPN, it works, and it is the only info that is available in OpenCPN

[attachment=103][attachment=103]Since the lat/long conversion SignalK => NMEA converter => OpenCPN doesn't work correctly I today activated the SignalK NMEA  ”Convert Signal K to NMEA0183” and the sentence RMC which contains Lat/long. I also checked that the setup is working and for this used the iOS app NMEA Remote.

But then I tried to set up KPLEX to receive the the info and forward it to OpenCPN according to enclosed picture but nothing happened.

When activating Diagnostic I got the message

An exception of type timeout occured. Arguments

Please advice ? Or I'm I missing something fundamental ?

I have a little knowledge to Github so would appreciate access to Gitbook, helping with documentation. My Github user is MatsA

Will take pi and can adapter out to Amita next week, butcher an n2k drop cable to suit and test.....

Hi !
The problem is "solved" with a NMEA 0183 to USB converter connected to the plotter output, se the pictures in earlier reply, which is configured in Kplex. This connection forwards the long/lat data and the Actisense takes care of the other data.
Also tested the 1W temp sensor which worked very well !!

The final solution was the SignalK plugin "signalk-to-nmea0183" and adding a connection in OpenCPN with Network,localhost:10110,TCP Input, which is discussed in this post http://forum.openmarine.net/showthread.php?tid=92 /Mats

OK. Good solution.
Well, we updated the (OpenPlotter) signalk to nmea0183 converter. It would be good if you can test it.
The advantage of the OpenPlotter converter is, that you can choose other data than normal.
(For example you want to see the exhaust temperature on a nmea0183 instrument. But you can't. Because there is no sentence for it.
If it does show nmea water temperature (MTW), then you can misuse this sentence to show your exhaust temp.)
So you should use the SignalK plugin for standard conversion.

Is there a new version of the converter, i only see version 0.1?

Happy to test the new one !

I edit my post.

Is there a new version of the converter, i only see version 0.1?
I see two versions in the plugins configuration.
One with 12 options one with 5 options. (latest version is from 24 June)
SignalK didn't delete the old one from the menu. If you don't like that, install SignalK new.
